Sam Dunn

Sam Dunn is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, an anthropologist, musician, and the co-founder of Banger Films. Born in England and raised in Victoria, Canada, Sam earned his master’s degree in Anthropology at Toronto’s York University, then embarked on his first documentary film, Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey, which won a Gemini Award for Best Writing in a Documentary.  For the follow-up, Global Metal, Sam explored the globalization of metal in China, Japan, Brazil, India, Indonesia, and the Middle East. In 2012,  Sam co-directed and hosted the biggest-ever TV series on the history of heavy metal, Metal Evolution, which reached #1 on VH1 Classic (USA) and Much More Music (Canada), then spearheaded the crowdfunding campaign to create Metal Evolution: Extreme Metal, the episode too heavy for broadcasters. Sam has also directed several concert films (Joe Bonamassa, Rush) and is currently in production on a number of films and TV series. He lives in Toronto.
